Description

Several years ago, my collegue and I decided to bring our colective knowledge together and form the g-point data architects gmbh. We specialized in internet applications and solution providing for predominantly scientific projects and customers in the education field. We have since worked on numerous projects in the field of data architecture, webdesign, web application development, software development, multi media content as well as print productions. g-point data architects gmbh is providing a "no- worries-all-in-one-service" - from initial project management and planning, through all aspects of information management and architecture to hosting the websites, databases and interactive systems/web applications of our customers, guaranteeing a perfect integration of soft- and hardware and "insider support". I am acting as a CEO and art director and share the responsibility for all aspects of information architecture with my partner.

Networking

We run our servers at the Berner Technopark and manage network connectivity and internet uplinks on selected customer locations. I have acquired the skills to design, build up and run/manage small to mid size LANs, including VPNs. (Read more about my networking skills under the academy of sciences chapter).

Security

For all our servers and customer installations (servers and networks), we take full responsibility for the IT security aspects: -Conception, planning, policy making, -Strategic planning incl. finances -Security management and auditing -Installation & configuration of all security devices -Monitoring, Troubleshooting, Incidence handling -User support

Server administration

At g-point data architects gmbh, it is part of my duty to care about our own servers as well as servers we installed at customer locations. -Web (Apache 1.3, 2.0) -FTP (pure-ftp) -Database (MySQL, postgreSQL,Filemaker) -Scripting (PHP, Lasso, CDML) -Mail (postfix, qmail, vpopmail, squirrel) -DNS (BIND, prim. & secondary) -Backup (Retrospect network backup) -Network monitoring (various tools) -VPN All systems run on either MacOS 9 or MacOS X (Darwin/FreeBSD)

Information architecture

g-point solutions are custom tailored and as much individualized as possible, and as generic as necessary. This is only possible due to the consequent application of information management and architecture principles and techniques. -Research, requirements gathering, competitive/peer analyses, discovery sessions, consulting party processes - Experience maps, interaction analysis, navigation, user interface design, usability studies - Content architecture, management process analysis & system design, quality assurance, feedback culture ... It's part of my duty at g-point data architects gmbh to lead customers through all these processes and bring their project to success.

DB management & development

The academy has many varying needs for databases, both for internal management as well as for internet publishing and data sharing. Webdesign

In early days it was solely my duty to develop, design, implement, code and run the academy website. In the mean time, we have moved the webdesign duties to the public relation group. Support, Instructions/Teaching

Our small team (two people) is fully responsible for all internal IT relevant instructions and teaching - from security instructions to custom styles in Word, from Webdesign support to hardware troubleshooting. -Developping and preparing internal instructions as in-class lessons as well as print and online manuals -Coordination of internal and external IT education -First and Second Level support for hard- and software, network and internet
