Trained as a chemistry technician, I was in touch with informatics quite early, by programming various analytical instruments. I was then working for the institute for legal medicine of the University of Bern, involved in toxicological research, and programmed software to interpret semiquantitative chromatographic data.

After two interesting years , I moved on to the "noble gas isotope" lab at the institute of climate physics, and spent almost ten years measuring nobel gas isotopes, developing analytical methods, machines and software applications to control the systems and perform analysis of their data output. This was mostly done with Pascal (v3 to 5), LabView and Fortran. It was back in 1995 when I started to work on my first Homepage, using a Mac IIci and SimpleText ( a plain text editor).

It proved to be the start of a long love story. I was teaching myself something new every single day, and in 1996 I switched definitely from the laboratory to the server room. I got a job by the Swiss Academy of Sciences where I worked hard on enhancing my knowledge not only in theoretical aspects, but in actual practise!

I am used to stumble over a problem. And I am used to analyze it, gather data and learn from countless sources, to develop a concept for a solution, refine and design it, develop prototypes and then go for the product to provide a final, working and neatly tailored solution. And I am not afraid to learn new stuff, no matter if we talk about in-classe or self education / e-learning.
Life means permanent evolution... so I attended courses and meetings in various fields like SQL, Apache, PHP, Network Security, Networking technology, Programming techniques and methodology (C/C++, OOP, UML), Unix system administration (FreeBSD/MacOS X), JavaScript programming, Graphic design, Layout and typography and many more.

With just two brains in our team, I always had at least 50% of the responsibility for all aspects of planning, buying/building, installing, configuring, teaching and supporting a whole scientific organization's needs for IT. Since six years I am part of the IT strategy, finance, design, communication, the development, security and support team, which guarantees that I am not only seeing one side of the coin... Yet,

i'm only partially a tech head (see "far side") - and I always was (and still am) interested in themes like didactics, rhetorics, ergonomics, user interaction/interface design, graphic design, communication models etc., and I spent significant learning time and countless trials combining men and machine on all levels.

Beside all these activities, Iam trained in medical phytotherapy, and medical massage techniques, I hold a naturopath certificate and play accoustic guitar in a band... read more see " far side ".
